aKyra Minturn, born on August 19 1965 is an American actress. She is also a producer and director. She is most famous for playing the role of the Deputy Chief Brenda Leigh Johnson (TVN crime drama The Closer). For her portrayal of Johnson, Sedgwick won a Golden Globe Award in 2007 as well as an Emmy Award in 2010. Following the conclusion of the seventh season the series was cancelled on the 13th of August 2012. Sedgwick's performance as Madeline Wuntch in the sitcom Brooklyn Nine-Nine is also noteworthy. Sedgwick was nominated for an Golden Globe award in 1995 for her performance on Something to Talk About. Sedgwick's other film roles include Oliver Stone's Born of the Fourth of July (1989), Cameron Crowe's The Ones (1992) The Heart and Souls (1993), Phenomenon (1996), What's cooking (2000) as well as Secondhand Lions (2003). The Game Plan (2007) and The Possession (2013). Sedgwick was born in New York City, the daughter of Patricia (nee Rosenwald), who was a speech instructor and educational/family therapy therapist, and Henry Dwight Sedgwick V, an investor in venture capital. Her mother was Jewish. Her dad was Episcopalian of English descent. Sedgwick claims to be Jewish and has stated that she attends Passover seders.
